2025 World Junior Swimming Championships

Great Britain’s Filip Nowacki turned in a stunning performance in the 100 breast at the World Junior Championships, winning the event in 59.20 to lower his own national age group record.

The 17-year-old has been on fire this season, as he first broke the British Age Record in July, posting a time of 59.59 at the LEN European Junior Championships, only for day 1 of the World Junior Championships to see Nowacki break the record again during the semifinal of the 100 breast in with a 59.24.

Tonight’s swim saw him shave another .04 off of the record, and he charged into the wall .3 seconds ahead of runner-up Shin Ohashi of Japan, who holds the World Junior Record (58.94) in the 100 breast.

Nowacki was 4th at the 50-meter mark, taking it out in 28.10 while three of his competitors were out in sub-28 splits. He threw down a strong back half, coming home in 31.10 to mark the fastest second 50 in the field by over half a second and claiming the gold medal.

He now has five sub-1:00 performances in the 100 breast under his belt.

Nowacki currently holds two British Age records for 17-year-old boys, as he also set the record in the 200 breast (2:08.32) back in July.

Nowacki is set to race the 200 breast in Otopeni later this week, as well as the 50 breast, making it a waiting game to see if he will take down any more records.
