The final day of the 2025 Hungarian National Swimming Championships is upon us, which means we’ll be treated to several more medal-contending races during tonight’s finals.
The men’s 100m fly is among the contests and 22-year-old Hubert Kos has eyes on another gold as he captured the top seed in this morning’s heats.
Kos stopped the clock at a speedy mark of 51.48, the sole sub-52-second result of the field.
The Texas Longhorn opened in 23.88 and closed in 27.60 to land lane four, nabbing the 6th-best time of his career in the process.
Kos’ lifetime best rests at the 50.84 he produced at last year’s Pro Swim Series stop in San Antonio.
However, Kos’ path to the top of the podium isn’t clear-cut, as fellow Olympic champion Kristof Milak is in the hunt.
Milak hit a casual morning mark of 52.97 to put himself in a solid position.
Richard Marton and Zoltan Bagi tied in 53.94 to try to set themselves up for success at tonight’s main event.
Additional NOtes
- Panna Ugrai captured the top seed of the women’s 100m fly, posting 1:00.05. She’s been as fast a 58.76 in her career from October 2023. She’ll need to be even faster than that in order to clear the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 58.33 needed for Singapore.
- Dora Molnar of USC was the fastest performer in the heats of the women’s 200m back. She posted 2:13.30 to hold over a second advantage over Eszter Szabo-Feltothy who will flank her tonight in 2:14.47. Katalin Burian, the 30-year-old veteran, will be on the other side, courtesy of her 2:14.66 prelim. 16-year-old 400m IM champion Vivien Jackl is also lurking in the field.
